Uptime is one of those companies which have been around for ages, filling that scary pill section of your local convenience store - next to the condoms and marked up Vicks Vapo Rub. This company has adapted a little over the years, also coming out with Uptime in Maximum strength and cans too, although I have never seen them in real life.
Packaging:7
All of these convenience store supplements all come in bright garish colors, and this is no exception. Orange and purple logo on a dark blue background, wit bright yellow letters just to thy to kill whatever design sense you might have once had. It does do the trick though, and stands out from absolutely everything. From the little "OK!" made-in-America hand silhouette to the offset "UP words, this is so horribly ugly, it works.
Where it does not work is not listing the caffeine - which is a cheat, pure and simple. I mean, If you are going to be an energy pill and then push spirulina, that's fine. But if you are giving your consumers a boost with caffeine, you had better tell them, as opposed to hiding it in your ingredients listing with no mention of how much caffeine you are taking. It seems shady - and cheating. I will bet that a good percentage of people who take this don't even think this is caffeinated - and that can be a dangerous thing.
Also, I found it amusing that their instructions for use say to "take one tablet per 50lbs of body weight with your favorite beverage for best results," but since there are 3 tablets, I guess you should not be over 150lbs. Or maybe only this is for smaller or underweight people. The average weight for men in the US is 192lbs, which means either Up Time is very specific with their audience, or they are cheating their male consumers out a pill.
Taste:8
My only real problem with Uptime's pills are the huge horse-sized monsters you have to swallow. I don't even mind the flavor in your mouth - a kind of grassy, earthy taste. Still, this is nearly impossible to do without a big glass of water to help get it down. And if you have a dry mouth? the non-coating with get this stuck to the back of your mouth faster than the tongue on a flagpole bit in "Christmas Story".
Buzz:9
I think it is interesting how thisproduct does not even push the caffeine. Instead, the energy mix they promote all over the package is made fromCoenzyme Q10,ginseng and ginko biloba. There is a massive tonnage of Vitamin Cin here, along with Vitamin B complex, Cayenne pepper, alfalfa, Spirulina Blue Green Algae, Wheatgrass, papaya, carnitine and chromium.
I was actually surprised how well this worked. For a discount bin product made for C-stores, this really did a great job of getting me all perked up and alert for a good three hours after work! At the sleepiest time for me day, all I felt perky and pretty happy I was! I was able to actually get through my afternoon with a smile on my face, opposed to dragging my sorry Friday afternoon carcass through the chores I always need to do.
Strangely enough, this stuff is not Kosher. This means one of two things:
They either are like MacDonalds, and hide a little meat into their formula to be sneaky, or
they have not yet found a way to get someone official to give this a Kosher seal. Either way, Vegetarians, Muslims and Jews might want to do a bit more research...
