This is the light version of the very enjoyable Liquid Nitro energy drink I reviewed a couple weeks back. While this drink is made here in the US in Riverside, California, because of some unique distribution, this drink seems to be very popular in the Caribbean. As a matter of fact, the Very nice guy who sent me samples informed me this is the number one selling energy drink in Jamaica. What better place to need an ice cold energy drink than hanging out on the warm tropical beach, or having to dodge bullets in Kingstown.
Buzz:8
According to their site, this has an average 160mg of caffeine - its about average. There are the B vitamins, the inositol, ginseng, ginko biloba and Gotu Kola - which is used to treat cancer, leprosy, skin disorders, arthritis, hemorrhoids and tuberculosis. Still , I am not sure pouring this up your rectum is really a good idea. Still, I like that at least it is trying something a little out of the mainstream. Overall I liked the buzz. While nothing spectacular, it did the job well and even might give my lungs a bit more happiness too.
Packaging:8
Like the other flavor, this one is beautiful in its simplicity. The only real difference is that this one is in Diet-Colored Blue ( all diet foods must be in blue - it's the Law). Like its red brother, this design is clear, unobstructed and clutter free, with HUGE fonts and minimal colors. I usually dislike the look of bare aluminum, bit in this layout it works very well.
As opposed to the other version, strangely, the caffeine amount was not printed on the can. "energy blend" ingredients and contact info. It was double printed - and looked good in the process. The lid was not on in any particular direction, and it would be nice to show off the can while drinking it, but overall it is a minor point.
Taste:6
This tastes a whole lot like a Red Bull clone - only more complex and without the medicinal bitterness. While the Original tasted like a mix of squirt and Monster, this one tasted more like a plain old Monster clone. This was a letdown, actually, as I really hoped that the flavor would be a direct port of the original. Instead, this was pretty common and uninspired. While the flavor might have been more of a 7, my disappointment brought this down a point.
