So what is the big deal with the new versions of Go Fast's tea compared to the earlier versions of GFtea? The main differentiators is the use of Stevia. stevia is a huge change from their honey and sugar versions, bringing the calorie count for the 16oz drink down to only 100 calories in the can. Stevia based drinks have not really been all they could be, as their herbal plant flavor is pretty strong, and is not that suited to most drink's flavor profiles. Not the case here, as stevia works like a dream with the combination of white, black and green tea and Go Fast's already herbal flavored blend.
Buzz:8
Go Fast has the same energy and herbal blend that it usually does. There is around 160mg of caffeine, as well as 2 grams taurine, Ginseng, Vintamin B complex, Ginko Biloba, milk thistle and inositol. Like usual for Go Fast drinks, this also contains Ribose, an energy enhancer as well as helps people with chronic fatigue syndrome. Ribose is also used to improve energy, sleep, mental clarity, pain intensity and well-being.
I felt the energy in about 15 minutes, and it was a nice light boost. My head seemed clearer and much sharper for four or so hours after drinking a can, with a slight tapering off and no crash. This certainly did not wire me, but just made my early mornings and late afternoons easier to cope with and get through.
Taste:9
Unlike the previous GFTea, this one is much easier to drink. If you enjoy the flavor of tea based drinks, then you will LOVE this. If you are not the kind of person who can tell your Tazo or Celestial Seasonings blended Iced tea from your pre-made McDonalds Lipton syrup tea, then this is not the drink for you. The floral notes of the tea are accentuated by the grassy flavor of the stevia, giving way to a much more robust and earthy flavor.
Drink Go Fast tea when your can is cold. Unlike other drinks, this CAN NOT sit around and get warm. Refrigerated, it is a delicious dream, sparkling, refreshing and full of Iced Tea Goodness. Warm however, this flavor gives way to sour and bitter harshness too difficult to swallow. Not that you can't take your time drinking this, but do not grab one of these from the top of a warm shelf and try slugging it down. Your face will revulse like a mouthful of turpentine. If you start off with your drink ice cold, even if it takes you a good 15 minutes to finish the can, the slightly cool drink still hits the spot.
Packaging:9
The packing itself has also vastly been improved over the black and white cans of GFTea. Rather than go with a solid color or illustration, they chose to go with a realistic photograph of tea leaves, something very difficult to pull off on a printing job on metal. Getting a quality realistic print on a can is not easy to do, which is why almost every energy drink you can find goes with a solid illustration on it. Go fast used a new technology Ball has to imprint the can, and it works amazingly. While not photographic quality, the leaves to look real and inviting.
Go fast does just about everything else perfectly too. The overall font choices and color scheme are lovely and work well. They list all ingredients, including caffeine. There is a blurb about the drink, they double face the drink to make it easier on the stockers at grocery stores, and even put the dang lid on right! Any other energy drink that hits the market should use this as a template as what do to right. While not necessarily innovative, this is the best energy drink can I have seen in a very long time!
