When was the last time you had coconut juice? I mean real coconut juice, not the crap they sell as a syrup packed with lots of high fructose corn syrup? Chances are, if you are not an Asian chef, not in a long while. And it is not like coconut water is not that easy to find either. This might be the reason there are so very few coconut energy drinks out there.
Actually, there are only two. Power trip came out with a decent coconut drink, but it was not what one would call healthy. Judging by how well Go Fast does with their new Coconut energy, there really does not need to be another. Any other drink would have one hell of a hard time competing against Go Fast's delicious and near perfect concoction. Pina Coladas will never be the same again.
Buzz/Nutrition:9
While the buzz for this drink is only slightly above average, the nutrients in here and care for the ingredients are particularly impressive. The buzz is brought to you by the combination of Vitamin B, 81mg of Caffeine, Guarana, Panax Ginseng and Ribose. The energy lift is a nice gradual one, and lasts a good 3-4 hours with no jitters or crazy caffeinated intensity. While one can in the morning is a great way to get moving, I drank one of these in the evening and still managed to go to sleep 4 hours later without any problems.
Nutritionally, this drink kicks some serious ass. It has Ginko Biloba to improve alertness and memory. The usual energy drink ingredients are in here as well, including taurine, milk thistle and inositol. There is even some potassium to help refresh after a hard workout.
This is also natural enough to show up in your local Whole Foods store. IT is sweetened with sugar, but also honey and stevia, to keep the calories down without using lab made sweetener. It is also preservative free, and actually uses coconut water as one of the main ingredients.
Taste:8
If you like coconut, you will love this drink. If you are not a coconut fan, stay away. Another tip - this drink MUST be cold. It turns sour and bitter if left out to warm in the sun. Some drinks can handle being warm and flat - but not this one.
That being said, this is just what you need on a hot day. It is a little sour, but coconut is as well. They did manage to hide the chalkiness of stevia, something not many drink companies have been able to accomplish in the past. Even though you would not think of this as a winning combination, it really is quite good.
This also makes the most delicious mixed drinks for a hot summer day. Adding some spiced rum and pineapple juice makes a super tasty Pina Colada. I had some Pama Pomegranate liqueur I added to one with some tequila for a most fantastic cocktail. Really, I found all sorts of alcoholic uses for this drink, and it stood up very well in all of them.
Packaging:9
Like their new tea, this uses new proprietary printing technology to get photographic quality printing on the can. And It really does look sharp, although the text is harder to read when there is brown on red text. Some text, like "serve chilled" and their address, are completely lost in coconut. Still, this is a very minor point. Overall they do everything right - listing caffeine content, double facing their can, easy to read with great fonts. The only other small thing is that the label is put on haphazardly - not pointing out, like it should.
