NX Energy drink

There is something about Nitros that makes guys get all funny.OK - not being sexist - I know some female gearheads who get hot and bothered at the sign of a well fit bottle valve too. Something about all that raw power and instant thrust... if there ever was a sexual feeling to come from a vehicle - it would be a nitro burning 2 wheeler. I have even tried to install a can of nitrous on my 175cc scooter just to get the rush.

(a note for any interested, although you might look wicked cool going 85mph on the freeway on a tiny scooter, you look exactly the inverse of that when pushing your dead scooter with a cracked engine head down the shoulder of same said freeway)

Now embracing that crazy insane lust of speed, we have not one but two drinks based on the elusive liquid silver. I am sure in the coming months there will be a ton of comparisons between NOS and NX, but other than the packaging, they are really not the same. NOS = Intense caffeine fueled orange soda in a cool bottle. NX = Not As Intense caffeine fueled, more nutritious and deliciously flavored slime in a seriously awesome kick ass bottle.

Packaging:10
This has many comparisons to NOS cans, but I think it has taken them one step further. They have 2 kinds in an opaque black or white bottle, depending on whether you choose the mango citrus or Fruit punch flavors. While the black is cool in of itself, on the fruit punch bottles the bottle looks an off shade of pink with the red bleeding through the plastic. Just to make things cooler, they have their logo embossed on the bottle too, so it stands out a bit from normal bottles, plus it holds a good 24 ounces, so it is bigger than most 20oz bottles as well. The coolest part is the lug nut as the cap - just as awesome as the twisty lids NOS has.
I lied. The coolest part is not the lid, but the artwork that really makes this drink stand out. The illustration of old Hot Rod, crotch rocket and funny car. The ditressed background does not interfere with the easy to read and well fitting text on top, and the design as a whole is perfectly done.

Buzz:8
The key ingredient in NX Energy is Quercetin, a plant extract known as a flavinoid. This stuff is loaded with it, as it supposedly build long term energy (much like people say about ginseng) and is a big time anti-oxidant, if you get into that sort of thing. This IS the stuff that made people go all ga-ga over FRS energy drink and chews, although much unlike FRS, this actually has energy. Although there is only 80mg of caffeine iper serving in here, that does amount to a whopping 240 mg caffeine per bottle, along with 1200% dvof your vitamin C, and 150 % of B3. The thing I think it really cool is the load of potassium in here too, to actually help refresh like a Gatorade after a workout or sustained physical exercise. They also keep the High Fructose Corn syrup out of here, opting for real sugar, or Sucralose/Ace K for the dcalorie/free version.

Taste:9
This is one of those drinks that you want ot drink out of the cool bottle - which is a really hard thing to do - because the liquid inside is really really cool. While I am not sure if the colors and the unique texture was purposeful or a happy accident, but there are no other drinks out there like it.

The mango citrus is like a smoke filled lemon merengue color. IT pours out think and creamy, which is really unexpected. The dense colors seem to swirl together almost like pouring out oil or grease. But it does not taste greasy at all, and in fact tastes just like a great grapefruit drink, like fresca. There are definitely notes of mango in here, although I would not say it is really mango flavored. I really don;' know if it is cooler to pour this one in a glass or drink it out of the cool bottle.

The fruit punch was just as interesting. From the way the bottle turned red, I expected a fruit punch to look and taste like fruit punch. It pours out the color or smoked salmon, or guava nectar. while not as swirly as the other flavors, it still has the same effect when you initially pour it out. It is still way citrus-y and tart, with an unidentifiable fruity berry flavor after. I loved this flavor more than I was expecting too, keeping the tartness in there as opposed to it being a straight on Hawaiian Punch remake.

  1. I have only tried one of the flavors so far and that was the mean and lean. The drink was great but that color is something special. I don't think anyone can truly imagine the color until they see it themselves.
