For the last couple days I have been trying out the new Speed Shot by ABB. According to the literature, this is supposedly giving you tons of energy for workouts through neuro-precursors, methylxanthines, and botanicals. While I have heard of botanicals before ( in my shampoo?) this is a new one for my energy drinks, and I have never even heard of neuro-precursors or methylxanthines before.
What I do know is this stuff kicks some serious ass. With enough caffeine and energy for aq good 6 hour rush, this stuff will force you to go to the gym, just to burn off the nitro fuel you just consumed. Not to mention there are 2 servings in each little 8 ounce canister - so if you are sensitive , be careful. Of course, if you are sensitive to caffeine , why are you even reading my articles?
Buzz / Nutrition:10
To get things moving like a coyote on roller skates they packed the liquid in here with a huge 250mg dose of caffeine PER SERVING (don't forget there are 2 per bottle) as well as bitter orange extract and beta alanine. Bitter orange is a fat burner and can help with the thermogenics during a workout, and beta-alanine promotes fat burning as well as helps muscle fatigue. They don't even use pharma caffeine, instead upping the dose with Yerba Mate, Guarana and cacao, so the buzz comes on slower and processes in you at a slower rate.
To keep things healthy, this has no sugar and only 5 calories to burn off - less than walking that flight of stairs to your gym. And after drinking this you WILL want to go to the gym. I am not sure if a body can handle this every day, but this will get your dragging bum out of bed and force you to do something. My first bottle I was at the gym, so it was a good thing. My second bottle I drank left me racing around the office, bouncing into cubes like Pac Man on meth and coding at a staggering 560 typos per minute.
packaging:9
"In the gym, many of our customers appreciate stimulating supplements that don’t leave a lot of fluid sloshing around in their stomach. That tends to get in the way of intense training,” said Jay Jacobsen, ON’s Marketing Manager. Speed Shot Intensity is designed to provide lasting energy and alertness in a half-bottle serving size of just 4 ¼ ounces.
So the serving size is one half a bottle, not even enought o bother drinking down. A real man ( or real woman as the case were) downs the ENTIRE 500mg dose in one go, then creams at oneself later for the obscene amount of energy coursing through your viens. The bottle warns you not to do this. As a matter of fact it warns you over and over again in big letters. Not big enough to stop the foolhardy fdrom guzzling it seems - but still. It has a nice lid to save some for later, as well as more than enough ingredient information to have your pharmacologist blush.
Taste:7
I had two flavors - the purple frost and Sub zero Red. Both were quite tasty, much like any other sports drink, like powerade. Both flavors had a very strong undercurrent of orange flavor to it - not surprising when you look at the ingredients list. Still, this stuff was much more palatable for a super-concentrated workout drink than others in this category, such as RedLine.
I could not really choose a favorite flaovr between the two, as they both tasted like a fake punchy flavor, neither tart or bitter, with a very high dose of chemical sweetness to make this taste like a diet drink. I am not sure I willbe pouring this into a brnady snifter and drinking it warmed for dessert, but was tasty enough to drink down fast and hard.
