Kronik Protein energy - dragonfruit Orange

I am so excited by this drink - really more excited than I should be. This is a fantastic idea for an energy drink - something that should become very very big. So far, this market of drinks for the GNC crowd is untapped. BooKoo came out with a very decent product with Boo Koo Burners. Whey Up also has a caafeinated protein drink, but that one can't be found in convenience stores. Kronik did all the things they should do, appeal to the right niche with the packaging and created a fantastic drink that is both functional and tasty. They have the added advantage of already in many C-stores shroughout the country, so getting this into customers hands might not be as hard. Sure, the packaging is meant for muscleheaded dorks who can't think their way past remembering how many reps they did last time they worked out, but if you can work past that this is one hell of a drink.

Nutrition/Buzz:10
This is no ordinary energy drink. This promises, and delivers a great workout drink for before or right after a good muscle routine, providing a good 10 grams of whey protein, omega fatty acids ( from cranberry seed oil) and 10 grams of protein. This has the good stuff for energy ingredients too, keeping in their 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, Vitamin B and even a bit of calcium. The 260 calories in here are well spent, especially if taken right after a time at the gym. In terms of energy, this will definitely perk you and make you more mentally alert than when you started. There was almost no crash from this, which I was full expecting as the sweetener in here comes from sucrose (sugar). This will give you a good half day's energy no question.

Packaging:9
While this drink promises power and a very strong balance of nutrients, the can is designed for the extreme jock crowd. Not that this is a misstep, and may actually work. Boo Koo went the other way, going for a functional drink that would appeal to everyone. Everything about the can screams young musclehead. From the barbed wire to the slogan “Caution: Power too sick for science” printed on the front, this can is testosterone fueled. Knowing the market, Ill bet this drink will have some great legs, getting into the hands of regular convenience store drinkers rather than getting into the GNC.
This can also fits into the overall style of the other Kronik drinks, full of irreverence and silliness along with the grunge and extremeness. While I would not get this drink if I was a serious athlete, I myself would pick up this can on a regular basis for an after-workout treat. The fonts and barberd wire play very nicely together, and I found the outlined black and orange test VERY easy to read. The graphic designers at First Choice should congratulate themselves on a brilliant looking package. Only issue, and it is a small one, is that this drink will have a prolem staying front facing in the cooler shelves, as the area for the logo and design is quite small, compared to the real estate they gave for their slogan and nutritional data.

Taste:9
This taste is far superior to Boo Koo's offering, which was still very good. This Ups the ante by providing a very milky and sweet drink, that has no hint of tartness or artificality. Theis is a great blend of natural flavors and whey, leaving this with a great Orange Julius taste. I could not even taste the sucralose and Ace-K used in here, as it tasted very natural. The drink is also very thick, almost like a smoothie. It is very easy to drink and is very very smooth, making the full 16oz very easy to slug down in one sitting.
Like the other protein energy drinks, this one is non-carbonated - which is a really good thing. For those who think this drink needs bubbles, think if you would like a carbonated milk...
