This Slap Frost has been produced by Brain Twist, the makers of Cinnabon Coffee drinks, have produced over 7 different kind s of energy drinks which can be found all over New York State. I have been fortunate enough to get hold of a fantastic one, thanks to the king of all energy drink reviewers, the energy guru at Taurine Rules.
The thing that makes this drink stand out is not the taste, which is really quite Red Bull-ish and is not any reason to pick it up. What IS the reason to try this one out is that the drink seems to get cooler as you drink this - much like how the chocolate squared "Ice cubes" used to taste cold. This drink actually provides a cooling effect on your tongue - like a peppermint gum might.
Nutrition/Buzz:8
I love the sweetener used with this drink, a new one called isomaltulose, a natural constituent of honey and sugar that does not promote tooth decay, and has been around for years - even though it is not widely used. It also does have a little fructose, sucralose and Ace k, they are pretty far down the list of ingredients. Isomaltulose is even popular enough that Cargill has come out with their own variety of it. This also gives a very long sugar boost, as opposed to the fly then burn you get with High Fructose Corn syrup.
In terms of caffeine, it does give you a good boost at 200mg per can, and can keep you moving for a good couple hours after drinking it down. There is also the usual B vitamin mix and taurine, not to mention at least a couple different preservatives. While not at all healthy, it is not nearly as bad as it could be.

This can is waay to easy to slam. It goes down very smoothly and easily, preferring to be chugged in one sitting, even if ice cold. While this is more or less the Red Bull flavor, it is not at all bitter or sour, and there is almost no aftertaste, thanks again to the isomaltulose, which can be used as an aftertaste killer as well as a sweetener.
The frost works, tasting cooler the more you drink it. Of course it is not actually changing temperature, but gives the effect like a menthol cough drop would. This is one of those drinks that would take off like a rocket if they handled the advertising right.
Packaging: 9
This drink has about all you could want in an energy drink can. Goofy logo, info on your favorite ingredients, and the irreverent listing on the side. All in all, this is a very solid design. They even list their website twice and put on their own little Brain-Twist logo without being obnoxious about it. I know they probably had to pay a bit more, but adding their logo in a third gold color really helps the name pop out from the rest of the can. If you are one of the lucky ones in New York, I would not hesitate to head to your local Duane Reade and feel superior to the rest of us in the country who are stuck with the usual Rockstar/Monster/Red Bull wannabes.
Website:4
This is the one thing that would need tweaking before dominating globally. Right now this site is pretty plain, concentrating on things like Downloads and event pictures, and not enough on the actual products. I would love to find out more abut their drinks and their ingredients, as well as more about the company itself. I had to call them to find out they were a New York Only company, and find out about distribution or product information. They are on a good path, but this site is only about 2/3 finished.
