Another drink come and gone - I just found the last cans of "Club America" Futbol energy drink - and this is just another example how you cant put out a crappy product with a crappy package and hope to succeed. Shonar was the private label energy drink manufacturer working with Televisa, who owns the most popular professional soccer team in Mexico. I think Televisa might pick a better company next time. Not only is it near impossible to find this drink, but their website has even disappeared too. Bevnet took them out of their listings in January, so we can all wipe a taurine infused tear for another company trying to get a name in the energy drink business with a bad product and failing. The demise of a company is always sad, even if it turned out truly crappy product.
Taste:4
So what was so crappy about it? First was the flavor, which as supposedly berry but you would never know it by the actual taste. The flavor is completely fake - leaving the most horrible and long lasting aftertaste of any drink I have had in a while. This reminded me of licking a kool aid package - only slightly more caffeinated. At least they did not go for the Red Bull flavor, or soccer ball flavor for that matter.
Nutrition:
Does not list caffeine, but my guess was it had about 100 - 140 per can. The only thing listed is it has lots of vitamin B complex. There is some inositol and D-Glucuronolactone, but no listing of how much. I did like that it had a full day's worth of vitamin C, andthough that is balanced by the gratuitous use of High Fructose Corn Syrup, which makes it very heavy and leads to a HUGE crash after.
Packaging:2
Crap. Poor graphics, wit a barely noticeable screaming eagle, the logo right smack dab in the middle of the can, and nothing holding this layout together. There ae even printed bubbles on the can in case you did not know this was a carbonated beverage, I guess. There is no listing of caffeine and other energy drink ingredients. Overall, my problem is that it is ugly and bottom heavy, looking like a design slapped together using paint shop pro rather than getting a designer to to the job right.
Just goes to show - you can't come out with crap and expect people to buy it. Yes, there is money to be made with energy drinks, and it is enticing to be part of a growing sector with billions of revenue made - but you have to earn it. This one failed justifiably.
