Although I review energy drinks, I thought I would take a moment to talk about the new snickers charged bar. If you can find it - it is certainly worth a try. It is in every way a candy bar - full of peanuts and chocolate and gooyness, but now is more sour and is loaded with caffeine too!
It is slightly smaller than the average snickers bar, so it is a bit less caloric, but not enough to matter. These are a limited edition thing, so try one if you can find them, just for the fun of it - because I doubt it will be around long.
From the snickers press release:
"This new product responds to current marketplace trends and satisfies two need states craved by consumers who seek hunger satisfaction and a boost of energy.
To meet consumer needs and help millions of Americans take back their energy-zapped afternoons, SNICKERS Brand is proclaiming the post-lunch, pre-dinner hour between two and three p.m. the SNICKERS Charged Re-Power Hour.
'SNICKERS Charged offers consumers a bar of substance and a delicious and satisfying way to tackle the afternoon hours when one needs to 're-power,' said Michele Kessler, vice president, marketing, Mars Snackfood US. 'Research shows that consumers desire a product that not only provides a boost of energy but is also satisfying in taste,' added Kessler."
Nutrition/Kick:6Charged comes charged with 60 mgs of caffeine, so it is a nice healthy dose. It also comes packed with taurine and B vitamins, so it is an energy drink in a little snickers flavored package. The taurine added to the nougat, peanuts, caramel and chocolate gives a very unique and not necessarily good aftertaste to the whole concoction.
As for kick - Truly high buzz. The mix of sugar and caffeine and chocolate will keep you bouncing. The problems with that, is you can imagine going through a caffeine and sugar crash - and it hits you HARD. I needed 2 diet mountain dews to overcome the sluggishness. SO great ides, but be wary afterwards.
Taste:6
Taurine and B vitamins with a candy bar is really not such a good idea. If you want a snickers bar, this will leave a bad taste in your mouth - especially if you are not used to energy drinks. Cybelle at candy blog posted she tasted caffeine, I think she tasted the taurine - sour and lingering She clocked her aftertaste for eating one half of a bar at 90 minutes...
Packaging:6
A shiny candy package with a rhino on it. Not very inventive or interesting. But on the onther hand, it is just a candy bar - pretty limited playing room.
